According to Nielsen, the average American watches approximately 31 hours of television a week.  31 is an ode to this American oddity. During the 31 performance,  a group of us unrolled 31 hours of beta tape  at the University of Tennessee in May 2010.

It took an hour for a team of folks to unroll the film. Emily Greene, our all American viewer, sat in a chair unresponsive to her surroundings. She stared at a blank tv screen as the tape pile grew. At the end, she got up and walked away without a word.

Performance: May 2010. University of Tennessee. Knoxville, TN.
